They use unique technique for filter-feeding
Manta rays are filter-feeders, which means they obtain food on tiny crustaceans such as abundant zooplankton, worms and small fishes.
From an article of a website called Manta Rays Advocate, they tell us that Manta Ray swim through it with an open mouth and everything on the path gets filtered through the large oral cavity, just like how they get rid of anything that they don’t want to feed on their mouths.
Mantas give birth to live pups
As you might have learned in school, these giant animals are ovoviviparous, which means they produce eggs inside the mother’s body until they’re ready to hatch. The egg hatches internally to yield the live pups. After birth, the young-borns are capable enough to feed on their own and go on living without the mother’s protections. Some of the other known ovoviviparous animal creatures are sharks, fishes, insects.
Mantas are completely harmless to humans
Despite their giant size and looking dangerous, they actually leave no harm to humans and can be safely dived next to without any worries. Just make sure to maintain a safe and moderate distance within no closer than 10 meters from the Manta Ray.
They have the largest brains
Manta rays have the largest brains to weight ratio of any living fish. From the website Original Diving, these giant animals are able to map their environment, using sight and smell and have demonstrated high intelligence levels and long-term memory abilities.
They’re also known to be playful and curious with the divers.
They do vomit their foods
This is their way to eliminate the foods inside by dislodging trapped food inside their body. The vomit then turns out to be a treat for surrounding fish.
